Laser Settings for Glass

Lasers don't cut glass; they create a frosted etch by fracturing the surface. CO2 lasers do this well, UV lasers mark it with very little heat, and diode lasers usually need a coating to mark clear glass.

Tips for lasering glass

Lower power, less chipping
Too much power chips and flakes the surface. A wet paper towel or a thin coat of dish soap over the area can give a smoother etch on CO2 lasers.
Curved glass
Glasses and bottles need a rotary attachment to keep the surface in focus as it turns.

Before you run these settings

Settings vary between individual machines, even of the same model: lens, focus, alignment, air assist, and the exact material all change the result. Run a small test grid on scrap from the same sheet first, never leave the laser unattended, and never cut PVC or vinyl.
