Test grid generator
New material, or a laser you are still getting to know? Burn one grid of squares at different speeds and powers, see which looks best, and keep that setting. Free, and it all runs in your browser.
How a test grid works
- Pick your laser and material. Choose the laser type, the material and thickness, and whether you are testing engrave, score or cut.
- Set the ranges. Choose what changes across and down, usually speed across and power down, and how many steps each has.
- Download and run the grid. Download the SVG, import it at true size, give each coloured square its settings, and run it on a scrap of the real material.
- Mark the winner. Pick the square that looks best on the printed results card or on this page, then save its settings to your library.
Questions
- What is a laser test grid?
- A grid of small squares where each square is burned at a different speed and power. One run on a scrap shows which combination looks best on that exact material, so you do not have to guess.
- How big should the squares be?
- 10 mm squares with a 5 mm gap work for most materials. Go smaller to save material, larger if you want to judge fine detail or depth.
- Do I need an account?
- No. The generator, the SVG download and the printable results card are free for everyone. A free account lets you save the winning square to My settings.
