Laser Settings for Slate and stone
No public settings yetSlate engraves to a light gray that contrasts well with the dark surface, and works with diode, CO2, and fiber lasers. Granite and marble engrave too, with more variation between pieces.
Tips for lasering slate and stone
- Natural variation
- Stone is not uniform. Test on the back or an edge of the same piece when you can.
- Finish after engraving
- A wipe with a damp cloth removes dust, and a coat of oil or sealer darkens the slate around the engraving for more contrast.

Before you run these settings
Settings vary between individual machines, even of the same model: lens, focus, alignment, air assist, and the exact material all change the result. Run a small test grid on scrap from the same sheet first, never leave the laser unattended, and never cut PVC or vinyl.
